Polish and Really Proud this Month
Since 1608, when the first Polish settlers arrived at Jamestown, VA, Polish people have been an important part of America's history and culture. In 2019, Polish Americans will mark the 36th Anniversary of the founding of
Polish American Heritage Month, an event, which began in Philadelphia, PA, and became a national celebration of Polish history, culture and pride. During 2019, Poles will mark the 400th+ Anniversary of those first Polish settlers who were among the first skilled workers in America. Therefore, we will also Salute All American Workers and urge people to purchase the products and services offered by American workers. Polish Americans also use this month to mark the contributions of Generals Casimir Pulaski -- Father of the American Cavalry-- and Tadeusz Kościuszko, Hero of Poland and America. Youngstowners know him from the statue at Poland’s Peterson Park!  It’s a great month for you and your family to celebrate and learn.

Vodka gets its special day
Enjoy a night of tasting, learning, and mixology in honor of
National Vodka Day on Friday, October 4! The versatile, virtually tasteless and odorless tipple accounts for almost 20 to 25 percent of spirits sold today in North America, making it our most popular libation, a feat that occurred in the 1970s when it outpaced bourbon as America’s favorite spirit. Join us in raising a glass to toast the national liquor of Poland!

Lecture on Poles in Ytown

Continuing our Pol-Am Month celebration, we accepted the invitation of both Ohio Living Park Vista and The Youngstown Torch Club to be the featured speakers at their monthly talks on October 9. These monthly lunchtime and dinner discussions cover a variety of topics and give attendees a chance to explore local history. Prompted by last year
's talk at the Tyler History Center, the topic will be the History of Poles in Youngstown. In preparation, we reached out to Polish Arts Club of Youngstown, Krakusy Society, Polish Legion of American Veterans and the area Polish churches for a submission on their history. The goal is to give a talk that is a real overview of everything from Poles immigration to the Valley, to the social circles they created to some residents of acclaim who shared our heritage!
