A poetry reading from a collection of original works will be presented by local poet Sarah Burnett. Burnett is a second year graduate student in the NEO-MFA with a focus on poetry. Her gateway school, Youngstown State University, is also where she completed her undergraduate studies in English and graduated cum laude in December of 2011. In the spring of 2012, she was awarded the Robert Hare Award in poetry, was a runner-up in the Penguin Review’s contest, and received recognition for being an outstanding senior in creative writing. For the past five years, she has worked with the Student Literary Arts Association as secretary, and works on the editorial committee for SLAA’s Jenny Magazine judging the poetry submissions. Next spring, she will receive her MFA in poetry and pursue teaching composition and poetry.
